NPAK is dedicating a retrospective to the artist Achot Achot, centered around the figure of Christ, whose influence permeates the artist’s work from the 1980s to the present. The exhibition will also feature, during its opening days, an installation-performance created specifically for the occasion.

The multidisciplinary artist, who was born in 1961 in Yerevan, has lived in Paris since 1993. He became known in the late 1980s as one of the founding members of the group 3rd Floor (1987–94), recognized today as the first contemporary art movement in Armenia. Since 1990, a spiritual turning point in his life, all of the artist’s works have been titled Afactum. With this neologism, formed from the Latin factum (action, deed) and the privative prefix a-, he positions his creations beyond the socio-cultural contexts that may be associated with them.

In this retrospective, conceived by Achot Achot himself, the artist looks back on his journey over the past forty years, where the figure of Christ, as the ideal of the relationship between man and God, permeates his work. Angels, martyrs, and other Christic figures populate his paintings, photographs, installations, videos, and performances, in a very terrestrial world.
