Opening of the First International Print Biennale Yerevan 2017 and press conference at the Armenian Center for Contemporary Experimental Art (NPAK) in Yerevan, on October 25th, 2017 at 7 p.m.
Foundation KulturDialog Armenien as the initiator and organizer of the first large scale contest for printmaking in Yerevan and in Armenia will open the First International Print Biennale Yerevan 2017 on October 25th, 2017 at 7 p.m. In cooperation with the Armenian Center for Contemporary Experimental Art (NPAK) in Yerevan, 447 printed art works by 227 artists from 50 countries will be presented to the Armenian audience and will thus give a comprehensive insight into international tendencies of contemporary print making. During the press conference, the audience will get to know the members of the jury and will receive detailed information on the contest.
Starting with the opening ceremony, the international jury will examine the exhibited art works in order to reward the following prizes during the award ceremony on Saturday, October 28th, 2017 at 7 pm.: 1 Grand Prix, 1 First Prize, 1 Second Prize and 1 Third Prize. All artists, guests and visitors are invited to visit the contest exhibition and to attend the ceremonies of the First International Print Biennale Yerevan 2017 at the Armenian Center for Contemporary Experimental Art (NPAK) in Yerevan and to visit the contest exhibition (25.10. – 10.11.2017). In the closing ceremony, on November 11th, 2017, the official biennale catalogue will be presented bringing together all exhibited artworks in on publication. Among the major supporters of the First International Print Biennale Yerevan 2017 are the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Armenia, and the embassies of Estonia, Germany, and Poland.
Since its foundation in 2012, KulturDialog Armenien has engaged in supporting and promoting contemporary printmaking by organizing a total of 15 exhibitions, artist-in-residence stays and programs for Armenian printmakers in Estonia, Germany, Switzerland, and also for international guests to Yerevan. Exchange and artistic dialogue are of vital importance, the more so if it is possible to combine experiences from different countries and traditions.
Thanks to 2 projects in Estonia (1artist-in-residence stay and 1 exhibition – Tallinn 2014), 6 projects in Germany (2 artist-in-residence stays – Halle/Saale, 2015; Freiburg in Breisgau 2016/ 3 exhibitions – Halle/Saale, 2015; Bonn, 2015; Bonn, 2016; 1 workshop in Freiburg in Breisgau), 4 projects in Switzerland (2 exhibitions – Arlesheim 2016 and 2017; 1 artist-in-residence stay – Basel 2017; 1 exhibition – Basel 2017), and 3 projects in Armenia (1 exhibition – Yerevan 2014; 1 exhibition – Yerevan 2015; 1 artist-in-residence stay – Yerevan 2017).
The First International Print Biennale will thus be the 16th and until now the largest project in the field of printmaking and aims at bringing together Armenian printmaking with international examples and ideas. Within the context of the biennale, 2 further exhibition projects of printed art works will be organized by Foundation KulturDialog Armenien: The solo exhibition by the Armenian artist Arman Vahanyan and by the Swiss artist Marcel Mayer (artist- in-residence in Yerevan).
