Project Space Yerevan

History of the Program

Project Space Yerevan is a new program that stresses collaboration with the local community within an open, flexible structure. ACCEA invites visual and performance artists, curators, writers, filmmakers, and theater directors to submit proposals. These projects can be completed any time of year, and for variable periods of time.

For example, a curator could do studio visits and then organize an exhibition at ACCEA of local artists; an art critic/academic could present a series of lectures; or a performance artist could produce a work on site involving artists/actors.

About the Program

Who is eligible to apply?
Visual, performance, video, and sound artists, filmmakers, critics, curators and writers who are working at the professional level in their fields. Artists do not have to be from the United States, nor do they have to be of Armenian ethnic origin. We encourage artists of all backgrounds to submit proposals.

How many artists will be selected?
There is no set number - as many as we can accommodate during the year.

Is there funding available?
We are unable to provide funding for this program at this time. Applicants will have to secure their own sources of funding.

What are the housing and studio arrangements?
Artists live in rented apartments in Yerevan and are given studio space at ACCEA. ACCEA assists in finding housing and locating other resources.

What does the residency involve?
Visiting artists are asked to devote themselves to the completion of their proposed project.

What is the daily schedule like?
Artists are expected to structure their own time, depending on the needs of their project.

Note: Artists who are working in the studios provided by ACCEA will only have access to their studios during regular ACCEA office hours: 10:00 AM - 6:00 PM, Mon - Sat.

In the the evenings, visiting artists can enjoy the city life of Yerevan: cafes, people watching, restaurants, theater, concerts, etc.

How will I communicate without knowing Armenian?

Though it is helpful to speak Armenian and/or Russian, many of the artists involved with ACCEA speak English. A translator will be available for lectures and presentations.

What other policies are important to know?
ACCEA does not provide medical facilities, or insurance for the medical needs or personal property of guests. ACCEA assumes no liability for the health or well being of its residents, and reserves the right to end a guest's visit when it deems it necessary.

How does one apply for a residency? When is the deadline?

There is no deadline for Project Space Yerevan. Applications will be reviewed throughout the year.
