Curator's Statement

Antifreeze is a chemical agent which is added to the water in radiators of automobiles to prevent their engines from freezing. Water, in turn, prevents the engine from overheating. In the context of this process art plays the same role vis-a-vis the society. Art is directed against culture but not to harm it. It is obvious that man?s mind starts to work and develop when there are issues and problems on which it can concentrate. When there are no crises the mind tends to becomes stagnant.

One of the achievements of democracy is that it can be continuously criticized. This results in democracy becoming more flexible and accommodating. Thus the significance of the "anti" section of antifreeze becomes apparent. In this exhibition the basic gauge of selection is being opposed to something. In Armenia climate affects activeness of the arts. However, this certainly is not the only factor freezing the artistic milieu. The source of freezing is in the head of people, which is only possible to overcome by contact. Contact between people. And art is first of all means of communication, and greatly helps filling the void among people.

Therefore all of those who believe their presence helps "warming" the artistic environment are invited to take part in this exhibition. Structure of the exhibition will depend highly upon the nature of presented projects. Projects will be accepted in any form and manner of presentation.
