Amar Residency Program application deadline for 2005 is closed Amar Artist Residency Program
History of the Program
Over the last three
summers, nine artists have had the opportunity to be residents at the
ACCEA. For information on previous residents, click
here.
About the
Program
Who is eligible to
apply? Visual, performance, video, and sound artists, and
filmmakers, who are working at the professional level in their fields.
Artists do not have to be from the United States, nor do they have to be
of Armenian ethnic origin. We encourage artists of all backgrounds to
submit proposals.
How many artists will be
selected? This year, we plan on selecting three
artists.
Is there a residency
fee? No.
Is there funding
available? We are currently seeking funding for this program
and hope to be able to cover major expenses for the residents this summer.
More information to come.
When and how long
are the residencies? This year (2004), residencies will take
place in July and August. Artists are encouraged to remain for two months,
but one-month residencies will be considered.
What are the housing and studio
arrangements? Artists live in rented apartments in Yerevan
and are given studio space at ACCEA. ACCEA assists in finding housing and
locating other resources.
What does the
residency involve? Visiting artists are asked to devote
themselves to the completion of a personal or collaborative art
project. In addition, we ask that artists:
- Give a public lecture on their own work.
- Organize one or more additional activities at the Center. (In the
past, these activities have ranged from artist presentations to informal
workshops, screenings of work of other artists based in the local
context of the visiting artist, or discussion on topics related to the
visitor's art practice or interests).
- Present a final exhibition, screening, or performance showcasing
work completed over the course of the residency. This will be scheduled
during the last week of the artist's residency.
What is the daily schedule like? Artists are
expected to structure their own time, depending on the needs of their
project.
Note: Artists who are working in the studios provided by ACCEA will
only have access during regular ACCEA office hours: 10:00 AM - 6:00 PM,
Mon - Sat.
In the evenings, visiting artists can enjoy the city
life of Yerevan: cafes, people-watching, restaurants, theater, concerts,
etc.
How will I communicate without knowing
Armenian? Though it is helpful to speak Armenian and/or
Russian, many of the artists involved with ACCEA speak English. A
translator will be available for lectures and
presentations.
What other policies are
important to know? ACCEA does not provide medical
facilities, or insurance for the medical needs or personal property of
guests. ACCEA assumes no liability for the health or well-being of its
residents, and reserves the right to end a guest's visit when it deems it
necessary..
How does one apply for a
residency? When is the deadline? The deadline for proposals
is March 31st.
A panel of previous residents and arts professionals
will select three artists in early April and notify residents in mid
April. Applicants will be judged on the strength and feasibility of their
proposal, and of the quality of their previous
work.
